General questions about the practice

What is Christian Counseling?

Christian counselors are licensed mental health professionals who use the latest evidenced-based treatment interventions for your specific needs. Because Christian counselors have a faith-based approach to treatment, they are able to also integrate the Christian faith, beliefs, and values in to treatment. The counselor will always ask you what your needs and preferences are for integrating your faith in to the treatment and will seek to encourage your spiritual growth on your recovery journey.

Can I see a Christian counselor if I have different beliefs?

Yes, our counselors are licensed mental health professionals and trained to provide counseling in collaboration with your personal beliefs, values, and preferences.

What is a typical counseling session like?

Some sessions might be more structured that others. For example, some sessions may focus on processing feelings, emotions, and circumstances. Other sessions may involve specific treatment steps, psychiatric education, and/or emotional support. We encourage you to share your desires for the treatment session with your counselor so they can provide you with the best care.

What is Pastoral Counseling?

Pastoral Counselors have completed a graduate degree in ministry and/or pastoral/biblical counseling and have experience working with individuals, couples, and families. The goal of pastoral counseling is to help you think biblically about your current struggle in a confidential, caring and compassionate environment. A pastoral counselor will integrate Scripture into the counseling relationship and provides prayer, support, and biblical counseling, relying on the presence of the power of God, the grace of Christ, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit to guide your healing process.

What is the difference between a licensed clinical Christian Counselor and a Pastoral Counselor?

Our licensed Counselors are trained and licensed to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions. They rely on an integration of evidenced-based treatment models and biblical principles to bring about healing and restoration. A licensed clinical Christian Counselor is appropriate for individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing a moderate to severe mental health condition such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD/ADD, PTSD, etc. A Pastoral Counselor is appropriate for individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing struggles with relationships, work, marriage/pre-marriage, life changes and transitions, spiritual issues, and who desire a biblical model of care.
If you have questions about which type of counseling would work best for you, our highly trained team is available to help.
